Hello everyone, I am currently trying to assemble my new Ikea Brimnes dressers. My specific question is: how do I properly install the drawers of the Brimnes series so that they slide smoothly and without sticking? At first, I followed the instructions, but the bottom drawer keeps catching, which might indicate issues with the drawer runners or alignment. I have already checked that all screws are tightened, but maybe there are additional tips or tricks for precisely adjusting the drawers, especially regarding the installation of the metal runners. Does anyone have experience with the exact assembly of these drawers and perhaps recommendations that go beyond the official instructions?

Hello Nousvin,

Basically, it is important to align the drawer slides exactly parallel to the carcass edge. Even though the instructions specify this, it sometimes does not happen precisely because the drill holes may be slightly offset or the furniture piece is not completely level.

Tip: Before tightening the screws, check with a spirit level or a straight board whether everything is aligned. Especially with the bottom drawer, the slide or carcass base might rub slightly.

Also, be careful not to overtighten the screws, as this can warp the slides. Install the drawer loosely first, then adjust it precisely. If it sticks, there may be dirt or installation debris inside the drawer slides. Clean these carefully.

Hello Nousvin,

I would like to go into more detail about installing the Brimnes drawers, as they can present some unique challenges.

- First, take a close look at the drawer slides Ikea uses. For Brimnes, these are usually metal side-mounted rails with plastic rollers.
- Pay close attention to the alignment of the rails: the lower and upper rail brackets must be perfectly level and parallel to each other. Otherwise, the drawer will stick.
- Problems often occur if the drawer sides are not exactly vertical. Don’t worry, it’s just a matter of millimeters.
- Be especially careful when hooking in the drawer: tilt it slightly, push it fully in until you hear a click, which is the release mechanism.
- If the drawer sticks after installation, take it out and check whether any rollers are damaged or if parts are wedged somewhere.

I’m curious whether you assemble the drawers completely before inserting them, or if you assemble them directly on the furniture piece. This often makes a difference in terms of fit.

One last thing: with drawers carrying different loads (e.g., completely full or completely empty), running smoothness can vary, so it’s worth checking the load and support every now and then.

I completely agree. Also, a bit of patience and gentle force when inserting the drawers doesn’t hurt! 😉

With my Brimnes, I always felt like the drawers kind of “clicked” into place at the end. Just keep at it, tilt slightly, and push in—that usually does the trick. And if you’ve well-lubricated the rollers, they’ll glide like a sled on ice.

Tighten the screws, hang the drawers, and check if everything moves smoothly and in parallel. If there is any sticking, realign the rail.

For a factual supplement: Ikea Brimnes drawers use a system with side-mounted runners that must be precisely installed within the carcass to ensure proper functionality. Therefore, accurate alignment in detail is crucial.

The following procedure has proven reliable:
- First, check the horizontal or vertical alignment of the runner profiles using a spirit level.
- Install only one side initially, verify the fit, and make slight adjustments by carefully shifting the runner through the screw holes.
- Avoid tightening the screws too much to prevent warping or damaging the runner profiles.
- After installing both sides, check the smooth operation of the drawer by gently sliding it in and out.

The most common cause of sticking drawers is misalignment of the runners and overly tightened screws.
