Hello everyone, I recently bought a Brimnes bed from IKEA, and I’m having some trouble with the assembly of the back panel. My question is: How exactly is the IKEA BRIMNES back panel attached? Are there specific screws or fastening points that need to be considered? I have looked at the instructions several times, but the description for attaching the back panel is a bit brief and unclear to me. I would greatly appreciate detailed tips, such as the sequence of steps, handling during fastening, or possible challenges when fitting it.
Hello Ramoritz, basically the back panel in the BRIMNES series is attached with small screws, which are usually included in the delivery. It is important that you first secure the side bed panels in an upright position, and then carefully insert the back panel. The back panel has pre-drilled holes that you fix with the screws – typically a Phillips screwdriver is used for this. Be careful not to tighten the screws too much, so the back panel does not crack.
I agree with laureo and would like to add that assembling the BRIMNES back panel works best in several steps:
- Step 1: Align the side panels parallel to each other and secure them in an upright position.
- Step 2: Position the back panel so that the pre-drilled holes line up with the corresponding holes on the side panels.
- Step 3: Use the provided screws, usually smaller crosshead screws, to attach the back panel to the sides.
- Step 4: Ensure all screws are tightened evenly, but avoid overtightening.
A common mistake is fixing the back panel completely too early before the side panels are stable, which prevents it from fitting flush. A small tip: having a second person hold the back panel while screwing can be helpful, especially with larger beds.

A small tip: A second person can help hold the back panel while screwing it in, especially if the bed is large. I can only confirm that! It’s much more enjoyable when you’re not doing it alone. Especially with the heavy back panels. Just coordinate well, and the assembly will be done in no time. Good luck with the build, you’ve got this!

Be careful not to overtighten the screws to avoid cracking the back panel. Thanks for the advice! Is there any trick to ensure the back panel is perfectly flush and aligned with the side panels? Sometimes it looks like the back panel is slightly offset. I guess I need to position it correctly first, but I'm not exactly sure how to do that.
