Hello everyone!
Is a TAE socket still necessary nowadays? We won’t be getting a landline phone. Who even calls on those anymore?!
Is the socket needed for anything else?

A TAE socket is still needed today as the termination point for the "last mile" connection when it comes into the house via copper wiring. For fiber optic installations, this is no longer necessary. Future fixed-line connections will no longer be tied to physical cables but will be based on accounts accessed through the internet connection: with internet telephony, a virtual channel occupies a session, whereas in traditional TDM telephone networks a physical line was occupied. This means a telephony service provider no longer requires a dedicated "line" but uses an existing network access. This access is also terminated on fiber optic lines, but no longer through a TAE socket. And which average homeowner is supposed to understand what you are saying?

And which average homeowner is supposed to understand what you’re writing? To put it simply: with the transition from POTS/ISDN to VoIP, the traditional telephone network along with the telephone outlet will disappear. This practically means:
- anyone who does not want a landline)

- anyone who still wants a landline)

dollartas18 Sep 2019 00:18A tip regarding the telecom provider: for our new build, they initially planned to install a copper cable. Last week we received a call and a letter (new order number) informing us that the installation method for our house connection has changed and we will now be getting fiber optic! If you’re unsure which type of cable will be installed, it’s best to ask in advance.
