Hi!
In our new build, there is a provision for a satellite system as well as multiple satellite outlets in every room. Now I’m wondering, is that really necessary? Will my children ever watch anything on free-to-air TV?
My children and I mainly watch Netflix/Amazon, and only my wife occasionally watches crime shows on free-to-air TV.
So my thought is to skip the whole satellite setup and instead install more LAN ports...
How have you handled this?

I also spent a long time considering whether to do without satellite and cable.
Our electrician, who is one of the more expensive ones in the area, provided us with a separate cost breakdown. The satellite sockets cost 96 each, and the complete system on the roof costs 639 net.
This means we could save about 1500 gross in total – but it wasn’t worth it for us. If we decide to switch and stop using satellite in a few years, that’s fine too.

I haven’t had cable or any TV reception for 7 years. There’s hardly anything worth watching anyway. The satellite dish that was on the roof was removed when the photovoltaic system was installed.
Nowadays, everything is streamed over the internet, including media libraries and series streaming services. I only watch free series streaming now, which often includes shows from platforms like Netflix. A big advantage is that you don’t have to wait for the German version, and you can binge-watch when you discover a “new” old series with 12 seasons.
