Hello,

we are currently planning our semi-detached house.

I wanted to ask for your opinion on satellite TV.

Would you still consider satellite TV in a new build at all? So far, I have had good experiences with satellite TV.

A friend of mine told me that from 2024, fees will also be charged for satellite TV (similar to cable TV subscription fees).

Is that true? What is the story with these fees?

Does satellite TV still make sense?

Yes, I watch a lot of streaming and on-demand services, but I currently still use satellite TV for live sports.

Our issue is that the skylight is on the north side, but it's located very low on the roof.

At the top of the roof, we don’t have a hatch,
which means it’s not possible to install them near the windows.

The garage is also not an option because it faces north and doesn’t have a clear view to the south.
On the house facade, we can only install it on the garden side.

Alternatively, we could run the cable all the way to the garage and then extend it underground through the garden to the garden shed, which is located at the other end of the garden.
There, it would have a clear view to the south.

When preparing the location for the satellite dish, make sure to discuss with the electrician how the grounding should be done or what needs to be prepared for it.

The offer from the private provider is a complete disaster.

Fixed that for you 😉

I would never climb onto a pitched roof either.

Most roofs are clearly under 45 degrees, so it’s not a problem. Proper footwear (climbing shoes or hiking boots as an alternative) and dry weather are important.

For our part, we will have the connections installed inside the rooms, but at first, we do not plan to use a satellite dish. The TV hasn’t been used as such for a long time anyway; when we use it, it’s mainly as a large screen for YouTube or streaming.

Where would you hang the dish in our case?

Roof: difficult to walk on (gable roof with a 35-degree slope, but I’m afraid of heights :/ )
Also, space for solar panels would be lost.

Facade facing the garden: doesn’t look good visually.

Garage and other facade are not options.

Garden shed? Would have to run cables through the entire garden.
Our garden is 10m x 20m (33ft x 66ft).

What do you think about flat antennas?
They are advertised as having the same performance as regular satellite dishes.

I’ve often seen them freestanding in gardens. Just get a larger stand.

You need to read the answers as well! A well-founded opinion on flat antennas has already been given.
What kind of response are you expecting regarding location recommendations?

In the past, on construction sites, you would have been told to use a "Siemens air hook"—with that, you can attach anything wherever you want...
