Hello everyone,

I just started using a new Framtid MW3 microwave from IKEA.
Now, I noticed something that seems quite unusual to me: as soon as I open the microwave door, the light and the fan turn on – it looks like the microwave is running at that moment, even though the turntable doesn’t rotate.
When the microwave is on and I press the door open button, only the turntable stops, but everything else appears to stay the same.
However, the display only shows the time when the door is open, as if the microwave is off.

My question to you is: is this normal behavior, or should the microwave simply be dark and off when the door is open, as I am used to from all the microwaves I have had? It does concern me a bit that the microwave seems to be running with the door open, and I won’t use it anymore until I’ve spoken with IKEA customer service.

No need to worry, this is normal. I have a microwave from a different manufacturer, and it does the same. Check the manual, it’s likely explained there.

Thank you for your response. I just left a cup of water in the microwave with the door open for 5 minutes, and it stayed cold. So, it really is just the light that stays on (I could have thought of that yesterday as well).

Unfortunately, the manual didn’t explain this clearly, which is why I was concerned. I’m just used to cheap microwaves that completely turn off when you open the door.
