Hello everyone, I am currently faced with the task of installing an IKEA Metod kitchen – specifically, I now have the baseboards in front of me and wonder about the best way to attach them neatly and securely.

It is important to me that the baseboards neither wobble nor warp after installation, and that they can be easily removed if work is needed under the kitchen in the future. What are your experiences with fitting the baseboards on Metod?

Are there any special tips, tools, or consumables (e.g., screws, clips, adhesive) you would recommend? Perhaps also advice on dealing with uneven floors or how to align the baseboards precisely to achieve a perfect visual result.

I look forward to your practical tips and experiences!

The baseboards of IKEA Metod are usually attached with clips. You simply fix the clips to the underside of the cabinet carcass, snap the baseboard into place, and you're done. For uneven floors, it is often enough to properly adjust the cabinet feet – this ensures stability.

Regarding your question from a broader perspective:

Attaching the kickboards (also known as plinths or baseboards) in the IKEA Metod kitchen is indeed an important step to complete the installation neatly and avoid problems later on.

- First, check if the base cabinets are properly level on the floor. If not, be sure to adjust the height feet of the Metod cabinets accordingly.
- The kickboards are fixed with metal clips provided by IKEA. It is important that these clips are screwed in at the exact positions specified in the assembly instructions.
- Before snapping the kickboard into place, recheck the height of the clips — the board must fit tightly and evenly to prevent gaps.

A common mistake is to install the clips at an angle or without perfect horizontal alignment, which later causes wobbling or gaps.

If your floor is very uneven, you can also apply suitable leveling strips or thin sealing tapes underneath the kickboards to cover small gaps.

Summary: First, precisely adjust the cabinets, install the clips properly, check with a spirit level, and then firmly fix the kickboards. This ensures durability and a clean appearance.

If the boards feel too tight when snapping in, do not use excessive force — instead, loosen the clips and adjust them again.

I can easily understand that installing baseboards with Metod can sometimes be frustrating. I experienced the same because I wanted to do it perfectly so the result would look good and last. In the end, I succeeded by first attaching the clips temporarily and then hooking the baseboards in step by step.

I also had to remove a baseboard once because it didn’t fit perfectly – that encouraged me to take my time fixing things calmly instead of forcing anything.

It was also important to me to set the cabinet height very precisely – if this isn’t exact, you will immediately notice it later on the baseboard.

Don’t worry, you can manage it, even if it seems complicated at first.

This is a very good point that I would like to add to. With Metod kitchens, the baseboard area is often underestimated. I recommend the following approach:

- Measure the floor perimeter precisely and use a spirit level to check for uneven spots.
- Adjust the cabinet heights accordingly.
- Use wooden strips as a base if small unevenness needs to be compensated that cannot be corrected by adjustable feet.
- The clips in Metod are fairly stable, but if the baseboards still wobble, a drop of construction adhesive on the back can help—applied carefully and sparingly.

I have also found marking the floor helpful to prevent the baseboards from shifting while attaching them.

If you approach it methodically, you will enjoy the baseboards for a long time without needing any rework.
