Hello everyone,

I plan to install the baseboards for my IKEA Metod kitchen system. My main goal is to attach the baseboards cleanly and without major issues. My question is: What is the best way to mount the Metod baseboards to avoid unsightly gaps or loose fittings, and to ensure a secure attachment even on uneven floors? Are there any specific techniques or tools that have proven effective? I have some experience with DIY projects, but I really want to avoid mistakes with the baseboards because any imperfections are quickly noticeable. Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hello torsten6,

your question is very specific and addresses the main issue with Metod baseboards. It is especially important to prepare the surface properly. My advice: first check if the floor is really level. Often, small unevenness causes problems.

For fixing, I use the supplied clips, but additionally I slightly pre-drill the baseboards to attach them securely. Make sure to cut the baseboards precisely, especially at the corners. A miter saw is a useful tool for this.

This way, you avoid unsightly gaps and achieve a clean appearance.

Adjust the baseboards before installation, fine-tune the clips vertically, and mount them with a gap from the wall. This usually ensures a good fit.

Hello torsten6,

I can gladly provide you with a simple step-by-step guide to make installing the IKEA Metod baseboards easier:

- First, measure the room carefully to determine the exact length of the baseboards.
- Use a miter box or saw for the corners to ensure clean and flush joints.
- Check with a spirit level that the baseboards run parallel to the floor.
- Install the clips according to the instructions to ensure the boards hold securely.
- For uneven floors, placing small shims behind the baseboards can help.
- Finally, snap the baseboards into the clips and check that there are no gaps or loose areas.

A common mistake is simply screwing the baseboards in without using clips – this often results in a poor fit and visible gaps. I hope this helps!

In short: Align the clips precisely at the correct height, press the strips gently into the holders, done.

Thanks for the initial tips! I have a quick question to clarify my understanding: What is the best way to check for unevenness in the floor? Is a simple spirit level enough, or should I use something else? Also, what is the maximum gap allowed between the floor and the baseboard to still look acceptable?
