Hello everyone,
I recently installed IKEA METOD glass fronts in my kitchen. Now I’m facing the challenge of cleaning them gently while avoiding streaks.
Glass is usually quite easy to maintain, but with the METOD fronts, I feel that many household cleaners leave streaks or cause tiny scratches over time, which can be annoying.
I’m interested to know which cleaning products or methods you have found effective for IKEA METOD glass fronts to prevent streaks and scratches and to care for the surfaces as gently as possible.
Are there any special cloths or additional products that have proven useful? Or maybe even DIY recipes?
It’s important to me to avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the surface.
I look forward to your tips and experiences!

I’m interested in which cleaning products or methods you have had good experiences with for the IKEA METOD glass fronts, specifically to avoid streaks and scratches and to care for the surfaces as gently as possible.I’m very familiar with this issue – after every cleaning, I can usually see spots or streaks, even though I haven’t changed my method. I then started using microfiber cloths, which are not only gentler but also pick up dirt more effectively.
Very important: I always use lukewarm water with a little dish soap, nothing special. Afterwards, I wipe down with a dry, clean microfiber cloth, and usually no streaks remain.
Don’t stress about it; it often takes some patience and practice to find the perfect routine. I find that gentle cleaning is especially challenging for glass fronts.

Are there any specific cloths or additional products that have proven to be really effective? Or maybe even DIY recipes? For gentle cleaning of the IKEA METOD glass fronts, I recommend:
- Using a microfiber cloth without additives, as these do not damage the surface
- Using warm water and mild dish soap to remove grease and fingerprints
- Avoiding glass cleaners containing ammonia or alcohol, as these can dull the surface over time
DIY recipes are usually simple: a mixture of water and vinegar essence (e.g., 1:10 dilution) works well against limescale marks, but should be used sparingly to avoid damaging the finish.
After cleaning, thorough drying is essential to prevent streaks.
To prevent buildup, I recommend regularly wiping the fronts with a slightly damp microfiber cloth to avoid heavy dirt accumulation.

I think gentle cleaning is a real challenge, especially with glass fronts. That may be true, but isn’t it a bit exaggerated to worry so much about a few streaks?
IKEA METOD fronts are everyday furniture, not display pieces. Of course, everyone wants them clean, but if you focus too much on perfect, streak-free reflections, you might lose perspective – simple maintenance and practicality for daily use should come first.
Besides:
- Glass only gets scratched by microfiber cloths if they are dirty
- Mild cleaners are completely sufficient
I advocate for pragmatism. If you want scratch-proof perfection, you should consider specialist furniture or glass types with coatings, which will certainly be more expensive.
