Hello everyone, I installed the Metod drawers in my IKEA kitchen and noticed that they close quite hard and loudly. This is especially true for the larger drawers, which are often fully loaded; closing them is unpleasantly loud and feels rather rough. I am now looking for simple methods or tricks to make the drawers close more quietly and smoothly without having to modify the slides or dampers or buy expensive replacement parts. Maybe there are tips involving material inserts, adjustments to the drawer runners, or tricks that have proven effective with Metod? I look forward to your experiences and solutions!

As an addition: Those with some DIY skills can make small modifications to the drawer slide, such as improving its glide by using silicone spray. This makes the drawer close more quietly and operate more smoothly. It is advisable to use sprays that do not contain solvents or aggressive chemicals in order to avoid damaging plastic components. A common mistake is to simply use WD-40, which often attracts dirt and can be counterproductive in the long term.

Here is a brief guide for loud and stiff Metod drawers:

- Check if the drawer is properly aligned, especially the height adjustment and the parallel alignment of the drawer slides.
- Apply silicone spray or a special plastic lubricant sparingly to the sliding tracks.
- Attach self-adhesive rubber bumpers at the closing points (back panel, drawer box).
- Felt pads can be used as additional noise dampers on the bottom of the drawer.

This combination makes closing noticeably smoother without major investments.

I agree that proper alignment of the drawers and suitable buffers make a big difference. Additionally, in my Metod kitchen, I glued felt pads to the inner back side of the drawers. This almost completely eliminated the impact noise. For me, it’s the easiest and quickest trick—no technical solutions needed. For anyone who prefers a softer touch: closing quietly and smoothly simply makes everyday life more pleasant, especially in the morning or when there are children in the house.

For faster and quieter closing on Metod, I recommend:
- Attaching felt or rubber bumpers at the end stop
- Keeping the tracks clean
- Using silicone spray
This often provides sufficient improvement without much effort.

For long-term comfort and a pleasant feel, however, an upgrade to soft-close systems is recommended

Thank you very much for the helpful contributions! The discussion has given me new perspectives. For now, I will probably start with self-adhesive bumpers and felt strips and perform some maintenance on the sliding rails. I would consider a soft-close upgrade as a later step if the comfort is still not sufficient. Thanks also for the tip about silicone spray – I won’t replace it with WD-40, I actually didn’t know that. Overall, very informative and well-structured from all of you!
