Hello everyone, I am currently setting up my kitchen with IKEA Metod fronts, but I have concerns about cleaning, especially since my fronts are very delicate and I definitely want to avoid causing any damage. The surfaces are glossy, and I know that harsh cleaners or abrasive sponges can quickly leave marks or dull areas.

My question is: What specific cleaning tips can you give for IKEA Metod kitchen fronts that are particularly sensitive? Are there certain cleaning products or methods recommended to gently clean the surfaces while avoiding damage such as scratches, discoloration, or dull spots? I would appreciate detailed information on what to avoid and what is best to use.

Hello! A quick additional tip on this topic: After cleaning with water and a mild detergent, I always recommend drying the kitchen cabinet fronts immediately with a dry cotton cloth. This prevents water spots and gives the surface a nice shine.

Sometimes the fronts collect a slight layer of dust or grease, which can be easily removed with gentle movements. Especially when you don’t rub too hard, the surface stays looking good longer and you avoid small micro-scratches.

Not quite so serious, but I once accidentally scrubbed a bit too hard and was quite surprised afterwards – so it’s best never to run your fingernails over the surface 😉.

Great topic! 😁 I also have Metod fronts and initially experimented quite a bit until I found the perfect care routine.

My advice: Always use a soft microfiber cloth and lukewarm water with a mild dish soap, just as recommended here. I find it very important to follow up by polishing the surfaces with a dry cloth. That makes a huge difference!

And don’t worry if there’s a small stain now and then—gently wiping it again usually helps. Stay patient, and you’ll see your fronts will last a long time! 👍

I was so happy when I figured that out—your fronts will thank you!

For those who want to dive deeper:

IKEA Metod fronts are often made of MDF coated with foil or lacquer. Both surfaces are sensitive to certain chemicals and mechanical stress.

- Avoid cleaning agents containing solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or bleach.
- Do not use scouring agents or abrasive cleaning pads, as they damage the protective layer.
- Water temperature should not be too hot (max. lukewarm) to prevent damage to adhesive joints and the foil.

A simple and effective cleaning method is to wipe the front with a soft cloth dipped in lightly soapy water, then rinse with clear water to remove soap residues, and immediately dry to prevent water spots and damage.

If heavily soiled, a special gentle kitchen cleaner can be tested, but always try it first on a hidden spot.

In short: The key is to be careful, use gentle cleaners, and minimize mechanical stress.
