Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the installation of my new Ikea Metod kitchen and am looking for effective assembly aids and tips that can make the process faster and more reliable. I am especially interested in practical tools, advice on preparing the individual parts, and strategies to avoid common mistakes or delays. I already have some basic experience with assembling furniture but would like specifically precise guidance for Metod kitchens that helps with handling specialized components such as attaching the hinges, plinths, and the countertop.

Are there any particular tricks or tools that have proven useful, for example when aligning or fitting the fronts? I look forward to your experiences and recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Very important: Before assembly, lay out and sort all parts. Pre-sorting the screws saves a lot of searching. Use magnetized screwdrivers to prevent screws from getting lost.

A spirit level is helpful for alignment, especially with the carcasses and base units.

First of all, a structural tip:

- Always assemble cabinets on a flat surface to avoid warping and misalignment.
- Metod cabinets often have hidden screws; it helps to tighten the screws only lightly at first, then align all components before fully tightening.
- For the hinges: use the adjustment mechanisms on the Metod hinges to precisely set the gap dimensions. Especially the depth and height adjustments make fitting the doors much easier.

A small trick: When installing the countertop, you can secure the cabinets against slipping with clamps. This ensures the countertop fits perfectly from the start.

Common mistake: tightening all screws too early, which makes it impossible to make small corrections later and results in poorly fitting gaps.

That may be true, but why is it often claimed that the fronts can be perfectly adjusted using the hinge adjustment mechanisms? In my experience, much depends on the accuracy of the cut parts. If you are careless during cutting and preparation, the hinges can only compensate for minimal gaps, not larger misalignments.

Additionally, it’s important to critically consider whether you really need to use all the supplied screws. Especially when installing countertops, I have seen that some screws placed in unfavorable positions can cause material damage. If you’re not careful, you risk the long-term support and stability.

I would like to add a tip that makes assembly much easier: use a cordless drill with adjustable speed and a good torque control system. This helps prevent over-tightening or damage to the Lamello fittings or chipboard.

Even more important: during assembly, regularly check both the horizontal and vertical alignment with a spirit level. Especially with long kitchen units, cabinets tend to become misaligned if not properly checked.

Another tip: attach the baseboards last, once the rest of the kitchen is fully in place. This prevents minor adjustments from later forcing or loosening the baseboards.

Finally, a patient and systematic approach always leads to a faster and more reliable result than rushing through the installation.
