Hello everyone, I have a problem with my IKEA Malm dresser: the drawers keep falling out whenever they are not fully closed or if I don’t pull them out very carefully. This is not only frustrating but can also damage the drawer or the sliding mechanism. I’ve already tried adjusting the slides, but that doesn’t seem to help much. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to fix this issue permanently? Are there reinforced mechanisms or tricks to prevent the drawers from falling out? Thanks in advance for your help!
I know this problem well; it’s really annoying when the drawers just fall out and you worry they might get damaged. Recently, I tried screwing the runners in more securely and also added small rubber bumpers inside on the sides. It helps because the drawers run more smoothly and controlled, so they don’t suddenly slide out. Give it a try—maybe it will help you too!

Often, the cause is a combination of slight misalignment and lack of maintenance.
I have had good experience with applying small foam rubber stoppers on the inside sides of my Malm dresser. This softens the impact and prevents the drawers from falling out. It is important not to make the stoppers too thick so that the drawers still slide smoothly. The dresser itself should also be as level as possible, as even a slight tilt can affect its functionality.

Check if the rear end stops on the inside of the dresser are installed correctly – they usually prevent the drawer from being pulled out too far. That’s a helpful tip; that’s exactly what I planned to check next. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any illustrated instructions for this. Does anyone know how these end stops should be properly mounted or if there is a specific part from IKEA for this?
The rear end caps are usually small plastic holders attached to the back end of the rail, limiting how far it can be pulled out. They should be fixed securely to prevent slipping or movement. Losing or breaking these parts often causes drawers to fall out. Replacement parts can be ordered from IKEA. Alternatively, suitable stoppers can be found at hardware stores and installed as described.
