Hello everyone, I have a problem with my IKEA Malm dresser: the drawers keep falling out whenever they are not fully closed or if I don’t pull them out very carefully. This is not only frustrating but can also damage the drawer or the sliding mechanism. I’ve already tried adjusting the slides, but that doesn’t seem to help much. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to fix this issue permanently? Are there reinforced mechanisms or tricks to prevent the drawers from falling out? Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for the tips so far! Yesterday evening, I removed the drawers and checked the rear stops. Indeed, two stops on one drawer were loose. I tightened them and also added small felt strips on the edges. This morning, the drawers ran noticeably better and no longer fell out. I’ll test them for a few days now.

Glad to see you’ve made a start! 🙂 If the drawers are running more smoothly now, the effort was definitely worth it. If you want a more permanent solution later, you can also install homemade stops using small magnets. These hold well and keep the opening mechanism smooth.

I have now screwed them in place and additionally attached small felt strips along the edges.

That is exactly the right approach. When readjusting the stoppers, be careful not to overtighten the screws to avoid damaging the plastic material. It is important to test all drawer movements afterwards to ensure balanced clearance. If needed, feel free to provide me with precise measurements or photos of the mounting points, and I will advise you more specifically.

Update: After a few days of use, the drawers are now holding much better. They no longer fall out. The combination of tightening the stoppers and adding felt strips seems to have been the best solution for my Malm dresser. Thanks to everyone for the constructive and helpful suggestions.
