Good morning everyone, I recently bought the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and am currently assembling and adjusting it. I’ve noticed that the doors don’t close completely flush and the frame seems slightly warped. Unfortunately, the two adjustment screws on the door hinges are not very intuitive, so I wanted to ask which method works best for adjusting this wardrobe? Specifically: How can the Brimnes wardrobe be adjusted most effectively to ensure the doors close straight and flush, and that the entire piece feels stable? I look forward to any tips, tricks, or shared experiences regarding useful fine-tuning for this model and what to pay special attention to.

At first, I was also unsure about the adjustment, but don’t worry, you’ll manage it! 🙂 The important thing is to take your time and work step by step. If the doors don’t close smoothly, don’t turn the screws too much right away; make small adjustments and keep trying until everything fits perfectly. A small tip: sometimes, lubricating the hinges with a bit of silicone grease helps them operate more smoothly! Good luck!

To adjust the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe, I recommend the following procedure:

- First, make sure the wardrobe is standing on a level surface. If not, level it using wedges or suitable shims.
- Do not fully loosen the screws on the hinges; only loosen them slightly to realign the doors.
- Vertical adjustment: There is an adjustment screw that allows the door to be moved up or down. This ensures an even gap between the door and the frame.
- Horizontal adjustment: This screw aligns the door sideways so that it lines up flush with adjacent doors.
- Depth adjustment: This is especially important for the door to close flush with the frame. Make sure the door neither presses too tightly against the frame nor sticks out too far.

These steps need to be repeated several times until all doors are level and aligned. Patience is required.

For me, the depth adjustment is the most unclear. Is there a particular screw that is typically overlooked? Or a trick to most effectively tell when the depth is set correctly?

The depth adjustment is indeed often the overlooked third way to fine-tune the hinges. For cabinets like Ikea’s Brimnes, the screw is usually located at the back of the hinge arm, between the door and the cabinet frame. If this screw is turned in too far, the door sits too close to the cabinet and gets stuck; if it is turned out too far, the door protrudes and doesn’t close flush.

Tip: Close the door gently, watch the gap around the edges, and run your flat hand along the door surface at the frame. A flush setting lets your hand glide without resistance.

With very uneven walls, it can also make sense to set the cabinet slightly away from the wall to avoid pressure marks.

If the doors of the Brimnes wardrobe do not close properly, it usually helps to first adjust the height, then the lateral alignment, and finally the depth. Always check the gaps and whether the doors close evenly; if they do, it's correctly adjusted.
