ᐅ How secure is the IKEA BRIMNES wardrobe when mounted to the wall?

SIJULUHello everyone,
I would like to know how secure the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe really is when mounted to a wall. I plan to place this wardrobe in my bedroom, but I definitely want to fix it to the wall to minimize the risk of tipping or falling over. It is important for me to understand whether the included mounting hardware and instructions are sufficient to safely install the wardrobe, especially on different wall materials such as drywall or a solid concrete wall.
Do you have experience with a stable installation of the BRIMNES wardrobe? What additional measures or screws could be used to increase safety if necessary? And are there any safety warnings that should definitely be considered, especially if there are children or pets in the home?
Thanks in advance for your opinions and tips!

The BRIMNES is relatively secure when properly mounted on the wall. It is important that the provided anchors are suitable for the specific wall type. For drywall, be sure to use special hollow wall anchors. Otherwise, follow the instructions carefully to ensure it remains stable.
They say safety comes first – and with the BRIMNES, that means securing the unit to the wall. 😄 I installed mine on solid walls in my apartment using the appropriate screws, and so far, it hasn’t moved at all. Extra tip: If children are involved, it’s better to double-check! But hey, IKEA doesn’t include that warning for no reason.
For the secure wall mounting of the IKEA BRIMNES wardrobe, I recommend the following procedure:
- Check the wall type: concrete or load-bearing walls are ideal; drywall requires special cavity anchors.
- Use the appropriate anchors and screws provided with the instructions, or stronger ones if the wall requires it.
- Consider the mounting height to minimize leverage forces.
- Align the fastening points precisely and do not attach only at the top; if necessary, add a second fixation point at the bottom.
- After installation, check that the wardrobe is firmly fixed and, if needed, reinforce with brackets for additional stability.
Common mistakes include choosing the wrong anchors or neglecting the wall condition, which can lead to instability.

For drywall (plasterboard) walls, it is essential to use tested cavity anchors or toggle bolts to ensure load capacity. The instructions from IKEA are adequate but contain standard recommendations. For increased safety—especially in homes with children—the mounting should be reinforced with larger screws and, if necessary, additional brackets. Ultimately, the safety depends on the wall material and proper installation.
I have had the BRIMNES wardrobe securely mounted to the wall for two years – in a rental apartment with drywall. At first, I was unsure if it would hold. My daughter often plays nearby, so I wanted to be extra cautious. We used stronger hollow wall anchors and have checked everything regularly. So far, no problems. It feels absolutely safe to me, but I understand that you need to be especially careful when children are involved.
