Hello everyone,
I am planning to install Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets on a drywall (gypsum board) wall and want to ensure the mounting is permanently stable. The wall consists of plasterboard panels, and I cannot directly reach any load-bearing studs, or at best only irregularly. My question is: What are the options for securely attaching Metod wall cabinets to drywall without the mounting loosening over time or damaging the wall?
I understand that drywall alone has limited load capacity, so I am especially interested in suitable anchors, reinforcements, or perhaps special mounting systems. Suggestions on how to possibly reinforce the wall or better distribute the load would also be helpful.
Are there any practical experiences with certain anchors or fixing materials in connection with Metod cabinets, which often weigh between 70 and 100 kg (155 and 220 lbs) including contents? Thanks in advance for your tips!

The standard method of suspension is intended for solid walls. Drywall alone is too weak.
My advice: additionally install cross braces behind the drywall, then hang the cabinets on those. Alternatively, use heavy-duty drywall anchors or expansion bolts, but always ensure multiple fixing points.

Additional technical information:
- The load-bearing capacity of drywall partitions in bedrooms and kitchens is limited. Manufacturers of drywall anchors usually specify load ratings of up to 20 kg (44 lbs) per anchor.
- Ikea Metod cabinets, including contents, typically weigh between 70 and 100 kg (154 to 220 lbs).
- Therefore, at least 4 to 6 screws per cabinet should be distributed.
- Ideally, fastenings should be attached to wooden studs, possibly with an additional lining layer.
A single anchor without extra reinforcement is not recommended for such loads.
Targeted load distribution and anchoring to the load-bearing structure are the safest methods.

Metal anchors like molly bolts with high load capacityThat is true, but molly bolts can fail under dynamic loads on drywall with low board thickness. The safest options are combinations involving mounting on wooden studs, reinforcements, or plywood panels.
