Hello everyone, I recently started having a problem with my Ikea Pax wardrobe with sliding doors: the doors no longer slide smoothly in the track and sometimes get stuck, especially when opening. I suspect that the rollers or the tracks might be dirty or misaligned, but I’m not completely sure. Is there a recommended procedure or specific repair steps to follow for Ikea Pax doors with this kind of issue? I would prefer not to disassemble the doors or the entire wardrobe before I know exactly what to do. Any advice on tools, replacement parts, or disassembly would also be appreciated.

Usually, it helps to thoroughly clean the tracks and check the rollers. Rollers can often be removed using a small Phillips screwdriver. Afterwards, replace the rollers if they are damaged.

Your issue with the slipping or sticking Ikea Pax sliding doors sounds like a typical case of dirty or worn rollers and guide rails. The first step is definitely to swing the doors fully open and remove them from the frame. You usually need a screwdriver and possibly an Allen key to loosen the rollers, which are often located at the top and bottom of the door. Here is a brief step-by-step guide:

- Open the door as far as possible and look for the lever or screw to release the rollers.
- Carefully lift the door out of the track.
- Clean both guide rails thoroughly – I recommend removing dust and debris with a brush and then wiping the rails with a lightly damp cloth.
- Over time, the rollers can become stuck. Check if they rotate freely. If not, a drop of lubricant oil (about sewing machine oil) can help, but use it sparingly.
- If the rollers are damaged or wobble, they should be replaced. Replacement parts are usually available directly from Ikea or similar rollers can be found at hardware stores.

Have you already checked whether the guide rails themselves are bent? Even slight deformations can cause the doors to stick.

I definitely want to emphasize this. Sliding doors for Ikea Pax require very straight rails. Even minor dirt or deformations can quickly lead to problems. Additionally, check the door height with a spirit level; sometimes the issue is caused by uneven floors or incorrect hinge adjustment.

If you have never removed a door before, be careful when taking it off – hold the door securely and pull it straight up evenly. Afterwards, inspect the rails for any damage. In any case, a thorough cleaning with the proper tools is advisable, but avoid anything too abrasive that could scratch the rails.

Thank you for the previous tips. I have now taken the doors off their hinges and cleaned the tracks, but the sticking issue remains. The rollers still turn, but they seem a bit worn or damaged, especially the lower ones. Can I order replacement parts specifically for Pax doors from Ikea, or should I rather look for universal rollers? Also, I’ve noticed that the door sticks slightly crooked when opening – could this be related to the alignment of the doors themselves or the tracks? I hardly adjusted or changed the alignment during disassembly.

There are indeed original replacement parts for Ikea PAX doors that can be obtained directly from Ikea. The rollers are usually clearly marked, and Ikea has specific part numbers for the roller sets. It is important, however, to identify the exact type before ordering, as there are different track systems for PAX (e.g., with or without soft-closing mechanisms).

Doors sticking or binding crookedly can be caused by a misaligned or improperly positioned track, but also by incorrectly adjusted rollers. Sometimes, adjusting the rollers vertically or laterally using a small Allen key can help. Often, the lower roller is adjustable to allow optimal positioning of the door afterward.

In short:
- Replace worn rollers
- Check for possible track deformations
- Adjust rollers according to the manufacturer's instructions

This sounds like a minor adjustment and replacement task that should be the key to solving the problem.
