Hello everyone, I have a somewhat specific question: How can I properly clean IKEA Metod fronts with sensitive surfaces without causing damage?

I’m referring specifically to smooth, more delicate surfaces like high-gloss or foil-covered fronts, which can easily get scratched or develop dull spots.

I’ve tried several methods – from microfiber cloths to mild dish soap and even specialized furniture cleaners – but I’m unsure what is truly recommended and what should be avoided.

Are there any care tips or cleaning steps that have proven effective? Which products are really suitable, and which might damage or alter the surface over time? I’m also interested in whether the type of dirt (grease, fingerprints, dust) affects the cleaning technique.

I look forward to your experiences and expert advice!

As a supplement, I would also like to emphasize that using cloths with a coarse texture (e.g., household sponges with a rough side or cotton dish towels with a strong texture) should be avoided.

Despite supposedly mild cleaning agents, these can cause micro-scratches that, over time, affect the appearance of the surfaces.

Additionally, I would recommend steering clear of cleaners labeled as “degreasing” or “intensive cleaning,” as they often contain harsher chemicals.

If heavier dirt does occur, the cleaning process should be done in several stages—starting with water and very mild soap, and if effective, continuing with small, repeated cleaning sessions.

This minimizes the risk of damage.

That sounds like a good tip for patience to me. I also have glossy Metod fronts and sometimes got frustrated when stains just wouldn’t come off.

What helped me was to keep at it and avoid using harsh cleaners, instead cleaning gently more often and waiting in between.

This saves you from the fear of accidentally damaging the surface.

I would also recommend dusting regularly so the fronts stay less prone to stains and everything feels cleaner overall.
