Hello everyone, I am currently assembling my new Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and want to avoid scratches on the surface during the process. Since the material is quite delicate, I’m wondering if you have any practical tips or tricks to help protect the furniture as much as possible while putting it together. Should I use special coverings, be extra careful in certain areas, or are there proven tools that can minimize the risk? I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Place a soft blanket or a large foam mat under the parts. Work slowly and make sure not to place any metal tools directly on the surface.

Hello tanpar, I can understand how frustrating scratches during assembly can be. My recommendation is to place the individual parts carefully on a clean, soft surface, such as a thick wool blanket or a carpet. It also helps to wrap key tools like screwdrivers with some cloth. You should also be careful not to tighten the screws too much, as excessive pressure can damage the surfaces. If possible, work with a helper to hold the parts evenly in place.

Apply tape to the edges of the tools. This prevents scratches caused by accidental contact.

I can completely understand your frustration, tanpar. I once ended up with a large scratch during assembly, even though I was being careful. Since then, I use cardboard strips to protect especially sensitive edges and make sure that all parts lie flat and spaced apart on the surface. Sometimes it’s also a matter of patience – it’s better to take your time and stay calm rather than trying to rush everything.

Thanks for the tip, Dustin! Overall, that sounds reasonable. Do you perhaps have any recommendations on which materials work best and what to consider when choosing a protective underlay? For example, with the foam mat, I wonder if the surface might be too smooth and cause the parts to slip? Your insights would be helpful!
