Hello everyone, I will be moving soon and currently use IKEA Platsa furniture for storage. Since this furniture consists of several connected units and can seem quite delicate in parts, I’m concerned about the best way to transport it without causing damage during the move. What strategies are recommended to protect the materials and connectors? Should I completely disassemble the furniture, or are there specific packing techniques that can help? I look forward to your experiences and tips!

It is best to completely disassemble the Platsa furniture and wrap the individual parts well in blankets. Collect all screws and connecting pieces in small bags and label them. This way, you can avoid scratches and breakage.

Hey, packing is really half the battle! I would also recommend taking the modules apart and protecting the edges well with bubble wrap. But don’t be too strict; the panels are sturdy if you carry them properly. A bit of humor helped me while packing – moving is also an adventure 😉

Hello Antatu, I have some tips for you on how to safely transport your IKEA Platsa furniture during your move.

1. Disassemble: It is actually recommended to take the individual modules apart. The connecting plastic or metal parts can break if they are subjected to pressure or impact during transport.

2. Surface protection: Especially protect the wooden parts with furniture blankets or moving blankets, as the finish can easily get scratched or scuffed.

3. Packaging: Use bubble wrap, particularly around corners and edges.

4. Screws and small parts: Collect all small parts in labeled bags so that reassembly will be easier later.

5. Transport: Never place the parts loose in the moving vehicle; secure them properly to prevent shifting. This effectively avoids damage of this kind.

In addition to the points already mentioned, I recommend paying attention to the following technical details: The IKEA Platsa series is modular and held together by connectors that are not designed for heavy mechanical stress. Therefore, fully disassembling it is advisable. The surface is often made of coated particleboard, which can be damaged by pressure and moisture. Make sure the individual parts remain dry and do not rest on hard or dirty surfaces. Ideally, use antistatic film for packaging material, if available. The bags for screws should be sealed with multiple layers to prevent loss of parts.

Great tips so far! 😊 I just want to add that if the furniture is new, you should let it air out completely before transport. And when carrying it, always use both hands to avoid putting any strain on it. You can do it, Antatu; the Platsa units are definitely not indestructible, but with a bit of care, they hold up well.
