Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my Ikea Brimnes wardrobe where the doors make quite a loud rattling noise when closing. It sounds like there is slight contact between the door and the cabinet, even though the doors appear to be properly adjusted. My question is: how can I prevent the doors of my Ikea Brimnes from rattling when closing? Are there specific adjustment options or retrofit solutions that typically fix this issue?

I have already tried tightening the hinges a bit, but that only seemed to reduce the rattling slightly. It’s also important to me that the solution doesn’t require much effort or special tools, as I’m not very experienced with DIY projects.

I look forward to your tips and best practices!

I think the issue of rattling doors is overrated. It's part of the charm of Ikea furniture that they don’t offer perfect precision. Everyone wants the soft-close feature, but it’s also a matter of cost. So instead of exaggerating the problem, it’s better to take a more relaxed approach.

If someone really wants to make a change, they should consider choosing different furniture altogether, rather than spending hours on fine adjustments.

I disagree. Rattling can also indicate material fatigue or improper load, which can lead to more serious damage over time.

Therefore, it is essential to investigate the root causes and not just rely on quick fixes.

The adjustment and damping measures suggested by klabe are sensible and should be standard practice.

Additionally, I recommend checking older furniture for stress cracks in the wood, which can also affect the door closing.

I agree with this. It is always a combination of mechanical inspection, hinge adjustment, and, if necessary, adding small damping pads that eliminates rattling.

Additionally, it should be noted that patience is required during the adjustment process. Especially with IKEA furniture, you can’t always achieve perfect results with a quick fix. A step-by-step adjustment followed by a short test works best to reach the desired outcome.
