Hello everyone,

I have installed Ikea Metod cabinet fronts in my kitchen. Unfortunately, I have noticed that stubborn grease buildup sometimes forms on the white fronts, especially near the stove, which is difficult to remove with regular wiping. My question is: How can I improve the cleaning of Ikea Metod fronts when dealing with heavy grease without damaging the surface?

It would be great if you could share not only product recommendations but also effective cleaning methods, tips to prevent grease buildup, or the best approaches for handling grease that has already dried a bit.

Thanks in advance for your experiences!

I will systematically test the soaking tip in the next few days.

That’s good. I would recommend not overdoing the soaking time to avoid damaging the film coating’s structure. Lukewarm water is usually sufficient.

Also: definitely avoid leaving the fronts wet for a long time or covering them with wet cloths to prevent mold or swelling.

And: if you want to use natural cleaning agents, citric acid is a mild alternative – but never apply it undiluted, always dilute it and do not let it sit for too long.

Just to add: For baked-on grease, a combination of baking soda paste and a non-abrasive sponge is effective. Important: Use gentle circular motions and always wipe off afterwards with a damp cloth.

This reduces grease buildup without damaging the surface.

Additionally, baking soda has mild disinfectant properties and helps neutralize unpleasant odors.

However, caution: Always test first in an inconspicuous spot to ensure there is no reaction with the foil.

I often underestimate this. Scrubbing too aggressively can quickly lead to a dull surface.

I still stand by my view that these fronts are delicate and not designed to have grease build up for months. Of course, we all want the cleaning process to be as efficient as possible.

But in my opinion, basic hygiene and prevention are essential. This discussion could also consider the behavior behind it, not just the cleaning method.

I completely agree. For me, it’s a twofold approach: prevention and cleaning strategy.

If you wipe your kitchen cabinet fronts with a damp cloth shortly after cooking, you save yourself from long, intensive scrubbing. And if stubborn dirt does occur, cleaning works better when preceded by soaking and using mild agents.
