Hello everyone,
I have installed Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets with glass fronts. Although the surfaces appear quite durable, I have read that the glass fronts can be sensitive to the wrong cleaning agents or overly abrasive cloths. Therefore, I would like to know how to clean these glass fronts gently yet thoroughly, without risking scratches or damaging the coating. Ideally, I’m looking for a recommendation on a suitable cleaning method, as well as advice on which household products or tools I can use or should avoid.
Has anyone here had experience cleaning Ikea Metod glass fronts and can share tips that provide long-term protection and maintain their glossy appearance?
Thank you in advance!

For cleaning Ikea Metod glass fronts, a gentle but effective approach is recommended to avoid damaging the surface.
- Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth instead of abrasive sponges or paper towels, which can cause fine scratches.
- A mild dishwashing detergent diluted with warm water works well as a cleaning solution. Strongly acidic or aggressive cleaners should be avoided, as they can damage the coating.
- Do not spray the cleaning solution directly onto the front; instead, apply it to the cloth to prevent liquid marks and damage.
- For stubborn stains, a glass cleaner (alcohol-free and ammonia-free) can be used carefully.
- After wet cleaning, immediately dry the glass fronts with a dry microfiber cloth to avoid water spots.
Please avoid abrasive cleaners, scrubbing pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the frame’s finish and the glass surface.
This method preserves the appearance and ensures gentle care of the Metod glass fronts.

Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth instead of rough sponges or paper towelsAbsolutely right! I once tried cleaning the fronts with a regular sponge – result: tiny scratches everywhere. After that, I switched to microfiber cloths, and since then everything has been shiny without any issues.
One more tip from me: if you prefer a natural and inexpensive method, try a mixture of warm water and a few drops of lemon juice. It gently removes light grease stains and leaves a pleasantly fresh scent. But please don’t use too much citric acid, as it can eventually damage the surface.
So, better be gentle than scrub blindly – your glass fronts will thank you!
