Hello everyone,

I have installed matte IKEA Metod cabinet fronts at home and am now facing the challenge of cleaning them properly without damaging or glossing the matte surface. The fronts are somewhat prone to fingerprints and stains, and I want to avoid using overly aggressive cleaning products that could harm the finish.

I am particularly interested in:
- Which cleaning products are best suited for matte Metod fronts?
- Are there specific techniques or materials (e.g., microfiber cloths vs. sponges) that have proven effective?
- How should I deal with stubborn dirt without damaging the matte texture?

I would appreciate detailed tips or experiences so I can properly maintain my kitchen and keep the appearance looking good for a long time. Thank you!

Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh solvents such as alcohol or ammonia, as they can damage the matte surface and leave it shiny.

Thank you for the important advice.

I am also interested in whether anyone has experience with regular maintenance: Is it recommended to occasionally use special matte-maintaining care products on matte fronts, or are gentle cleaning methods sufficient to protect the surface from glossy spots or fading over the long term?

In my experience, special products for preserving matte finishes are generally not necessary. Cleaning gently is enough to maintain the look. Additional products can leave residues and are more likely to cause harm than benefit. Gentle cleaning alone is completely sufficient.

I have had good experiences with not cleaning too often – usually, simply dry wiping is enough to remove dust and fingerprints. Cleaning too frequently or aggressively causes matte surfaces to become glossy more quickly. So, it’s actually better to be gentle and infrequent.

For cleaning, simply use warm water with a few drops of dish soap. Wipe with a soft microfiber cloth, then dry. Do not use harsh cleaners or abrasive materials.

That sums it up very well. I would like to add that microfiber cloths are the best choice because they clean gently without roughening or deforming the matte surface. It is also advisable to use cloths that are not too wet, as standing moisture can cause weaknesses in the front panel.

In conclusion: Regular and gentle maintenance helps preserve the appearance for a long time.
