Hello everyone, after recently purchasing our Ikea Metod kitchen countertop, I’ve encountered a cleaning issue: despite careful cleaning, unsightly streaks often remain, which are especially noticeable on the white surface and somewhat detract from the otherwise clean appearance. I’m interested in how you manage to clean your Ikea Metod countertops with minimal streaks – what products, tools, and cleaning techniques have you found most effective? Any tips on products that work particularly well to avoid leaving smears would also be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your helpful responses!

Important: Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the surface and cause streaking.I generally agree with this, but I would like to point out that the term "harsh" is often too vague. It depends on the exact composition and concentration.
A more detailed analysis of the cleaning products used would be helpful here, because even seemingly mild products can contain ingredients that leave residues on plastic. Checking the ingredient list can therefore be crucial.
Does anyone know of cleaning products specifically recommended for Ikea Metod or similar laminate panels? Which ingredients should definitely be avoided?

Alternatively, products containing sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) in low concentrations are suitable, as they remove dirt without being too harsh. It is best to avoid anything with alcohols, bleach, or strong solvents.
In my experience, the most important aspect is the correct method: avoid wiping with too much moisture, do not leave the cleaner on for a long time, and always dry immediately afterward.

One important point is to avoid cleaning the countertop in direct sunlight, as the quick drying often makes streaks more visible.I hadn’t thought about that at all! I actually cleaned the countertop in the morning when the sun was shining through the window. From now on, I will plan differently. Thanks for this practical tip!
Overall, my takeaway is: it’s better to use pH-neutral cleaners, apply them sparingly, use two microfiber cloths, wipe along the grain, and avoid cleaning in direct sunlight.
I’ll report back on how it works for me. Thanks to everyone for the valuable advice!
I just wanted to add that I also used this method on light, almost white countertops, and the final result was noticeably better.
After cleaning, make sure to dry properly, preferably wipe again with a slightly damp cloth, avoid using too much cleaning agent, and when polishing, do not use circular motions – this really helped me.
I hope you achieve a streak-free surface soon!
