Hello everyone, after recently purchasing our Ikea Metod kitchen countertop, Iâve encountered a cleaning issue: despite careful cleaning, unsightly streaks often remain, which are especially noticeable on the white surface and somewhat detract from the otherwise clean appearance. Iâm interested in how you manage to clean your Ikea Metod countertops with minimal streaks â what products, tools, and cleaning techniques have you found most effective? Any tips on products that work particularly well to avoid leaving smears would also be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your helpful responses!

Would you say that I should do anything differently when cleaning, or is it usually enough to just use the right cloth?I think the cloth is crucial in combination with the appropriate cleaning agent, but there are also some additional details that can help:
- Donât use too much cleaning solution, as this can leave residues.
- Avoid wiping in circular motions; instead, wipe in the direction of the countertop grain, if visible, to reduce streaks.
- Rinse the cloth regularly during cleaning to avoid spreading dirty water.
What kind of all-purpose cleaner are you using? Some leave residues that arenât immediately visible.

Are there any cleaning agents that are definitely unsuitable for such laminate surfaces?Yes, strongly alkaline or acidic cleaners, abrasive agents, and solvent-based cleaners are absolutely to be avoided. Using vinegar or citric acid can also damage the surface and cause it to become dull.
For laminate, mild, pH-neutral cleaners such as soapy water or specialized laminate cleaners are the best choice. Often, warm water and a good microfiber cloth are sufficient.
One more tip: always use cold or lukewarm water, as hot water can damage the coating.
I can confirm that careful drying helps a lot. Something that worked for me as well: After cleaning, open the windows or ensure good ventilation. If the air is not too humid, the board dries more evenly, preventing water marks or streaks on the surface.
Also, have you tried cleaning the countertop with distilled water? This avoids lime spots, which often cause residue.
