Hello everyone,

I recently fitted my kitchen with IKEA Metod cabinets and chose the glass fronts because they look very modern. Now I’m facing the problem of cleaning them without streaks. Despite trying different all-purpose cleaners and microfiber cloths, there are always streaks or slight shadows left behind, which, of course, looks very unattractive on glass fronts.

I’m interested to know: How do you clean your IKEA Metod glass fronts without streaks? Which cleaning products and techniques have proven effective? Are there specific products or methods that work particularly well to achieve a truly streak-free and glossy finish without damaging the material or surface coating?

I look forward to your tips and experiences, and would appreciate explanations on why certain methods work better than others.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Lenpa,

great question! Glass facades can be quite tricky, but with the right approach, it’s definitely manageable. My favorite method is simple: start with a mix of lukewarm water and a small amount of dish soap to remove the heavy dirt.

Then, use a clean, lint-free microfiber cloth—preferably one that’s not too wet to avoid streaks. After that, use a dry microfiber cloth to polish the surface.

I also recommend adding a bit of vinegar to the cloth; it helps remove hard water spots and leaves a nice shine. But be careful—don’t spray vinegar directly onto the glass, apply it to the cloth instead.

And avoid harsh cleaners or scrubbing pads, as they can easily cause small scratches on the glass!

Good luck with the cleaning! 🍀

Clean glass fronts preferably with water and a small amount of dish soap, then wipe dry with a microfiber cloth. Be aware that glass cleaners containing ammonia or alcohol can help reduce streaks.

That may be true, but vinegar can damage seals and coatings over time. Has anything specific been published regarding material compatibility for IKEA Metod glass fronts? I believe it’s unwise to rely blindly on home remedies without fully understanding the surface properties.

As far as I know, the glass panels in Metod are coated with a special finish, which means aggressive cleaners or acids can cause damage.

I would recommend either asking IKEA directly for their recommended cleaning products or using ones that are explicitly labeled as safe for coated glass fronts.

Additionally, microfiber cloth quality can be annoying: not all microfiber cloths are the same, and some leave behind more lint or streaks than others. This should also be taken into account.

Another point: the cleaning technique—for example, wiping in circles instead of straight strokes unnecessarily exposes the glass to scratches, which in turn can cause streaks.
