Hello everyone,

I recently installed IKEA Metod kitchen fronts in my apartment and now want to clean them gently without damaging the surface. The fronts are matte white and seem sensitive to harsh cleaning agents or abrasive sponges. My specific question is: Which cleaning methods and products do you recommend to effectively remove stains, grease, and light dirt without affecting the surface texture or color? Are there any special precautions for Metod fronts, especially with the matte finish or plastic coating?

I look forward to your tips and experiences!

A mild dish soap with a microfiber cloth sounds reasonable.

Absolutely! I have similar surfaces and use exactly that – a mild dish soap, warm water, and a microfiber cloth. It works great, and the surfaces continue to look excellent! Always wipe in the direction of the grain if the surface has a slight texture.

Keep at it and don’t be discouraged if you notice a few spots now and then. Over time, you’ll learn what your surfaces tolerate best. Good luck!

What methods have you tried so far?

I can completely understand how frustrating it is when a cleaner doesn’t meet expectations or even causes surface damage. Your description of dull discoloration after using the all-purpose cleaner fits with chemical overexposure of the plastic surface. This often happens with cleaners that are too strong or alkaline.

My advice: Stick to mild options, as already suggested, and allow the surface some time to recover between cleaning sessions. If stains remain, you can gently treat them with a damp eraser, but only spot-treat with care.

How are you doing with the cleaning now? Are there any specific problem areas or stains that remain particularly stubborn?
