Hello everyone,
I have Ikea PAX wardrobes at home with wooden doors. Since these doors look very nice, I want to keep them in good condition for as long as possible. My question is: How do I properly and sustainably care for Ikea PAX wooden doors?
Specifically, I’m interested in which cleaning products or maintenance methods are suitable to avoid damaging the surface or causing unintended changes. It would also be helpful to know how to treat small scratches and whether there are any special care intervals for the wooden surfaces.
I’m hoping for practical tips that relate specifically to the Ikea PAX models, as I’ve heard the surfaces are not always comparable to traditional wood finishes. Thank you in advance!

One more tip regarding scratches: If they are very small, wood touch-up markers from a hardware store, matched to the door color, can sometimes help. They provide a very good visual repair of the surface.
If the damage is a bit larger, carefully sanding with fine sandpaper and then repainting or sealing with a suitable lacquer or sealant is recommended. However, be careful: the finish must match the original exactly, otherwise the repair will be noticeable.
For everyday maintenance, gentle cleaning is advised, avoid leaving water standing on the surface, and do not use abrasive or aggressive cleaning agents.

Hey, I also have Pax doors and find that proper care is quite simple – wash with warm water and a bit of dish soap, then wipe dry, done! Important: Never let water drip on them and avoid harsh cleaners, otherwise the surface can quickly look weathered.
And if a scratch appears – don’t panic! Often it fades over time, or you can touch it up with a matching color marker. Sometimes just polishing over it helps too.
In short: less is more when it comes to maintenance, and you’ll enjoy them for a long time!

The Ikea PAX wood doors are usually coated with melamine resin or lacquer.Thank you all for the helpful contributions! Knowing about the melamine coating was especially important for me because I had previously assumed it was real wood and planned to maintain it with oil-based products.
One last question: Does anyone have experience cleaning these types of doors with furniture polish that is not oil-based, specifically designed for synthetic surfaces?
I want to avoid streaks or residues and maintain a fresh, clean surface that is matte rather than glossy.
Thanks again for the tips!
