Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of assembling Ikea Metod cabinets with sliding doors and hope to find some expert advice here in the forum. Specifically, I want to understand the correct steps and tips for properly installing this combination.
I have already looked at the assembly instructions, but I am unsure about how to properly attach the sliding door mechanism, as the sliding doors don’t seem as straightforward as regular hinged doors. Additionally, I am interested in whether there are important details to consider when aligning and adjusting the sliding doors to ensure they operate smoothly without sticking or scraping.
For background: I have two Metod tall cabinets that I want to install side by side, each fitted with white sliding doors. The cabinets will stand on a wooden floor, and I plan to make the most of the installation space.
Maybe someone has experience with the exact installation process, tips for mounting the running rails (especially top and bottom), and advice on fine-tuning the sliding doors. Perhaps there are also tricks for achieving a more stable setup for the sliding door systems.
Thanks in advance for your help!

For reference, here is a structured checklist for assembly:
- Assemble the cabinet carcasses according to the instructions, checking that they are vertically level and straight.
- Use the supplied height-adjustable feet to compensate for uneven floors.
- Install the upper and lower running tracks exactly parallel and at the same height.
- Verify the running tracks are level using a spirit level.
- Hang the sliding doors according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Adjust the doors using the adjustment screws: height and, if necessary, lateral position.
- Ensure the gap between the doors is even along the entire height.
- Tighten all screws only after successful adjustment.
- After a short period of use, check the function and readjust if needed.
Additionally, make sure during installation that no damage is present on the rollers or tracks, as this will also affect the sliding performance.
Improved stability can also be achieved by fixing the tall cabinets to the wall, which enhances the load transfer and keeps the running tracks stable.
