Hello everyone, I have an issue with one of the doors on my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet. When opening and closing, it rubs or scrapes. The door is not new, but it’s also not very old, and the rubbing always occurs in the lower area, probably near the hinge side or the bottom edge. The doors are installed correctly, but I suspect either the alignment isn’t optimal or something has warped slightly. I have already tried adjusting the hinges, but the scraping noise remains. Has anyone had experience with how to permanently eliminate this kind of rubbing? Are there any tips for fine adjustment or maybe small repair tricks that can be done without much effort? I would appreciate any help, as I don’t want to apply more force to close the door – that can’t be the solution.

Hey, I know that feeling all too well! 😄 I had a similar problem with my Metod doors, and the rubbing was actually due to slightly misaligned hinges. Have you tried adjusting the screws on the hinges individually? I found you can compensate quite a bit that way. It’s important to loosen the doors slightly first and then make small adjustments by turning the screws. A tip from me: sometimes it helps to check if the doors are slightly sticking out at the top or bottom and then shift them sideways if needed. Fingers crossed it works out for you too! 💪😊

Hello BUFE33, to address the issue of the scraping Metod door more precisely, it is first important to identify the exact location and type of scraping. Since you mentioned the scraping occurs near the bottom area, it could be that the door is rubbing against the cabinet frame or that the floor is uneven, causing the door to hang unevenly. For adjusting the doors on Metod cabinets, there are three main adjustment axes: vertical, horizontal, and depth, which can be controlled using the different screws on the hinge.

I recommend the following approach:
- Remove the door: Loosen the locking screw on the hinge slightly and take off the door.
- Visual inspection: Check if the door or the cabinet frame is warped or damaged in any way.
- Check the bottom edge: Is the base level and undamaged?
- Adjust the doors while they are hung:
- Vertical: Screws on the hinge to raise or lower the door.
- Horizontal: Screws that shift the door sideways.
- Depth: Screws to move the door closer to or farther from the cabinet frame.

Scraping is usually caused by insufficient depth adjustment or incorrect horizontal alignment. Sometimes a small felt or rubber strip can help at the contact point if mechanical adjustment alone doesn’t work. A question from my side: Are these standard Metod doors with or without soft-close? Often the hinges differ slightly and so do the adjustment options.

It is also relevant whether the furniture is placed on a perfectly even surface. In many cases, an uneven base leads to warped doors and scraping problems.

Remove the door from its hinges and adjust the hinges slightly. Often, the horizontal alignment is not exact. If that is not sufficient, check if the base is level, preferably using a spirit level.

Simply carefully smooth the bottom edge slightly with fine sandpaper or a file if sanding marks appear on the edge. However, only minimally, so that the door still closes properly afterwards.

While this is a quick fix, I would always recommend fully exploring door adjustments before making any mechanical changes. The Metod system hinges allow for quite precise alignment, and most of the time the issue is due to incorrect adjustment. Additionally, excessive modification of the door edge can affect both its appearance and stability. Where exactly is the rubbing occurring? Can you say whether it’s really at the bottom edge or rather at the side edge near the hinge stop?
