Hello everyone,

I have an Ikea PAX wardrobe with sliding doors at home and am currently facing the challenge of how to clean the sliding doors both effectively and easily. The doors are often made of wood or wood veneer, sometimes with glass or mirrors, and the bottom tracks also look somewhat delicate.

I am interested in specific cleaning tips that make the process efficient as well as gentle. Recommendations for particular cleaning products, suitable cloths, or tools to use for the track systems to avoid damaging the mechanism are also welcome.

Does anyone have experience with the care and cleaning of Ikea PAX sliding doors and can provide a clear, easy-to-follow guide? I want to avoid doors sticking, squeaking, or surface changes caused by incorrect cleaning methods.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Are sliding doors perhaps better maintained with a dry lubricant due to their complex mechanics? For example, PTFE-based sprays that attract less dust?

That’s exactly what I use. Dry PTFE sprays are ideal for Pax tracks because they don’t become sticky and don’t attract dust. Silicone spray has good sliding properties but often attracts dust.

Great topic! I also have the PAX with sliding doors and regularly clean the surface with a slightly damp microfiber cloth and a mild cleaner. Every 3-4 weeks, I thoroughly brush the tracks with a small brush and then apply PTFE spray. This works great for me!

It’s important to occasionally remove the doors from the tracks and check the rollers. Some rollers can be cleaned with a cotton swab and a bit of rubbing alcohol.

Don’t worry—the cleaning isn’t complicated, and with the right routine, it can even be enjoyable!
