Hello everyone,

I am currently planning new wardrobes and am considering the IKEA PAX system. However, I would like to know if PAX wardrobes are available with glass doors. Specifically, I am interested in whether IKEA offers glass doors as a standard option for the PAX series or if a custom solution is usually required. If anyone has experience with these types of options—regarding availability, quality, or installation—I would appreciate your feedback.

Is the topic of glass doors for PAX wardrobes rather rare, or is it well covered? And what options might there be for partially or fully glazed doors? Thanks in advance for your insights!

The quality of the Ikea glass doors is reasonable for the price but technically not comparable to high-end glass cabinet systems.

I completely agree – and I think that’s precisely what makes choosing Pax with glass doors interesting. You get an attractive product at an affordable price. Sure, the glass quality isn’t premium, but honestly: it’s more than sufficient for everyday use.

Additionally, the glass doors can be easily customized with interior lighting. This highlights the contents even more without significantly increasing the cost.

Whether this makes sense in your case naturally depends on the overall ambiance.

Do you already have specific measurements in mind? Or are you looking for a general overview of the glass options in the Pax system?

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I actually have measurements in mind: a height of about 236 cm (93 inches) and a width of 100 cm (39 inches). The doors should be semi-transparent, like frosted glass.

My goal is to achieve an elegant look where you get a subtle glimpse of the interior through the glass without too much visibility. Until now, I thought this was only possible with custom-made glass panels, but if Ikea offers semi-transparent display cabinet doors, that would indeed be very convenient.

What have been your experiences regarding the durability and cleaning of the frosted glass doors? Does anyone have long-term information?

Hello Niccolo68,

Regarding your questions: Frosted glass has the advantage that fingerprints and light dirt are less noticeable compared to clear glass. The glass panels of the display cabinet doors are tempered, which makes them quite durable.

For cleaning, it is recommended to use a soft, lint-free cloth together with a mild glass cleaner. Avoid abrasive agents and rough sponges, as they can damage the frosting.

Another tip: During transport and installation, check the doors for small damages or cracks. Even though the quality is typically solid, as expected from Ikea, glass is always more sensitive than wood or MDF.

In general, with normal use, the doors will last many years without any problems.

The key points about glass doors for Pax: They are available in standardized versions, usually with frosted or clear glass. Prices are in the mid-range, and installation is very easy.

If no custom sizes are needed, Ikea is a good option here.

What are your experiences regarding the durability and cleaning of satin glass doors?

To add to TUELBA’s comments: The satin glass doors from IKEA prove to be quite resistant to dust and fingerprints in everyday use. The surface texture creates a slight micro-roughness that usually conceals these marks.

For cleaning, IKEA recommends glass cleaners without ammonia. Microfiber cloths are also suitable, as they gently remove dust while being gentle on the surface.

If you want optimal durability, IKEA does not offer a special protective coating beyond the satin finish. In this case, a post-treatment or sealing by professional glass specialists could be an option, although this is rarely necessary.

What are your experiences regarding the durability and cleaning of satin-finished glass doors?

Personally, I find cleaning to be straightforward, but it is really important never to use abrasive sponges. The satin finish can scratch easily, which makes the marks more noticeable rather than less.

Regarding durability: if you plan to open the doors daily, there can sometimes be issues with the hinges, which are not always of high quality in the standard version. In such cases, it may be worth replacing them with stronger hinges.

Other than that, the glass doors are well-suited for normal residential use – just not high-end furniture.
