Hello everyone,

I am moving into a new rental apartment soon and would like to use my Ikea PAX wardrobe system. The problem is that I am not allowed to damage the walls, so wall mounting is not an option. The wardrobes are quite heavy and tall, so I definitely want to ensure a secure and stable setup.

My question is: How can the Ikea PAX system be assembled or secured in a rental apartment without wall mounting, while still remaining stable and resistant to tipping over?

I am open to creative solutions, additional furniture, fastening methods, or any other tips that might work in this situation. Experience with the PAX system, ideally without drilling into the wall, would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Pumeo,

Okay, no drilling – but you don’t want an unstable wardrobe? Challenge accepted! ?

I would add more grip to your PAX at the base using a non-slip rug pad and increase stability by placing weights (for example, sandbags or weight plates) at the bottom.

Even better: foam wedges or clamp feet between the wardrobe and the floor often help a lot. And hey, if you’re creative, you can build small shelves on both sides to basically wedge the PAX between two pieces of furniture – quickly screwed together without drilling!

That way everything stays neat and stable!

Hello,

if wall mounting is not allowed, I tend to keep the weight as low as possible and stabilize the cabinet with side panels that also stand on the floor.

There are clamping systems and special anti-tip brackets available on the market that can be fixed only to the ceiling or the floor, without attaching to the wall. These can be an alternative.

It is important not to compromise on safety, especially with tall furniture like PAX.
