I am considering how to effectively use the Ikea PAX system in an office setting, especially in smaller workspaces where storage space is limited. I am interested in the options for adapting these modular wardrobes flexibly to different work requirements—whether for files, office supplies, or technical equipment. Are there any experiences with configuring PAX to both visually fit into an office environment and functionally support the workflow? What about internal divisions, doors, and additional accessories to create an organized yet easily accessible system? I look forward to practical tips and creative ideas.

From a practical perspective, Pax is suitable when the cabinet depth and dimensions match the requirements of the office. The maximum load capacity is about 50 kg per shelf, which is sufficient for light office equipment and file folders. For heavy technical devices, separate or reinforced solutions should be chosen. It is advisable to select components with good stability and precise doors to avoid rattling and the need for readjustments. Accessories such as internal drawers, dividers, and hanging file organizers are available, but careful planning is necessary to use the storage space efficiently.

PAX is well suited for offices when appropriate shelves and drawer inserts are used. Doors provide protection against dust. Simply adjust the interior layout according to your needs.

Sliding doors take up less space and work well in tight rooms.

That’s a good point, especially when the office is small. I chose sliding doors for the PAX wardrobe in my office and find them very practical. It feels less cramped, and it’s easier to access files. However, you should first check if there is enough space on the side for the doors to slide smoothly.

PAX offers various interior compartments, drawers, and hanging rods that can be adapted well for file folders, hanging files, or office equipment.

That is certainly true, but I would like to point out again: the hanging rods are hardly practical for typical office supplies. Although there are adapters available, whether to expand the system this way strongly depends on how much flexibility and modularity you really need. For professional office use, it might be more sensible to add additional office-specific furniture. Otherwise, the seemingly affordable PAX closet could end up causing more effort in the long run.

Thank you for all the helpful insights so far! Based on the feedback, I see the potential to convert PAX mainly through its flexible interior layout and the option to use sliding or glass doors into a decent office cabinet that fits well visually in the environment. The comments on load capacity and the need to focus on using lightweight materials are also useful. I’m also interested in your opinion on the aspect of room acoustics and noise reduction provided by closed furniture—does PAX contribute to a quiet office environment, or are regular office cabinets better in this regard? Additionally, are there any third-party accessories you would recommend to make PAX more suitable for office use?
