Good morning everyone, I plan to install Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets in my apartment, but I’m facing the problem that the walls here are quite uneven. The irregularities and slopes are sometimes more than 2 cm (0.8 inches) over a length of 2 meters (6.6 feet). How can I still mount the Metod cabinets securely and level so that they stand safely and straight, without causing any future structural or functional issues? I’m open to tips on leveling, fastening to the wall, and possible alternative solutions if the Ikea mounting system has limitations in this regard. Thanks in advance for your opinions and experiences!

For drywall, a special cavity plug or metal expansion anchor is recommended to ensure the mounting rail has sufficient load-bearing capacity. For brick or concrete, use standard heavy-duty anchors.

Additionally, if the walls are uneven, you can support the cabinets at the back with short battens if they do not sit completely flush against the wall. Attach these battens to the back of the cabinets. This provides a stable support surface and helps prevent any wobbling later on.

I placed small flexible rubber pads between the cabinet and the wall to compensate for unevenness. This also helps to balance tension during slight movements. They are not as large as wedges, more like a kind of buffer.

Everyone knows the problem with old houses and their uneven walls! 😄 If you install the mounting strip carefully and by eye, you can manage it really well. Also, remember to check the cabinets with a spirit level after hanging them and make any necessary adjustments before securing them with screws. A bit of creativity makes the whole thing charming and unique! 😉

If the topic of stability becomes more important: I have sometimes used small brackets from the inside to connect the cabinets to the wall, without them being directly visible. This is especially easy to do with Metod and provides extra support.

Thanks for all the tips so far! Another thought that came to me: Would it be advisable to secure or stabilize the cabinets to the floor in case the walls are really uneven? Or should that generally be avoided since Ikea Metod is primarily designed for wall mounting? I’m looking forward to opinions on this idea.
