ᐅ How do I mount IKEA Metod cabinets on different types of walls?

Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of my new IKEA Metod kitchen units and would like to ask for advice on the best way to securely and permanently fix these cabinets to different wall types. Specifically, I am interested in which fixing methods are recommended for load-bearing walls as well as for less stable walls such as drywall or lightweight partition walls.
Additionally, I would like to know the best approach for mixed wall compositions, for example, when working on a wall with plaster over concrete and an internal drywall layer. Which types of anchors and screws are most effective in these cases?
I will be mounting relatively heavy wall cabinets and want to avoid any risk of the furniture pulling out or loosening over time under load. Also, my wall is not always perfectly straight; what should be considered regarding installation in this situation?
Thanks in advance for any tips and experiences!

The wall construction is complex: actually a load-bearing concrete wall about 24 cm (9.5 inches) thick, covered by approximately a 2 cm (0.8 inches) plaster layer, with 12 mm (0.5 inches) drywall panels on the insideIn this case, I recommend not relying on the drywall for support. You should drill directly into the concrete wall, so it’s best to use a long drill bit with a depth stop to ensure the anchors fully engage in the concrete.
- Important: choose the correct anchors, as mentioned before, heavy-duty anchors suitable for concrete, e.g., Fischer SXR.
- Then select screws appropriate for the metal mounting hardware of the IKEA cabinets.
The plaster layer is relatively thin and may crumble if used alone, so do not assume it provides reliable support.
Since the drywall is on the inside, the risk of damage there is manageable as long as the anchors are properly installed. When drilling, however, be careful not to chip or crack the drywall.
Concrete wall: use an 8 mm (5/16 inch) drill bit, anchor length at least 80 mm (3 1/8 inches), heavy-duty anchors.
Plaster is not load-bearing, ignore drywall on top of it, only concrete supports the cabinet. Screws must be removable and rust-resistant.
Align the mounting rail, mark drill holes in advance.

No matter the wall type: it is important that anchors and screws are suitable for the weight.
For Metod cabinets, I always use metal anchors designed for concrete. Gypsum carbonate boards are not suitable for wall cabinets unless you hit a stud behind them.
Install the mounting rail level, and everything will work properly.

Good luck with the assembly, it’s going to be great!I can only agree with that. If you prepare well and choose all the fastening materials correctly, assembling the Metod kitchen cabinets is straightforward.
A small tip: If you have a hammer drill, don’t use it when drilling into drywall above the concrete, to avoid creating unnecessary dust. First aim for the concrete, then carefully drill through the drywall.
One more tip for aligning the cabinets: Use a spirit level and align the mounting rail before drilling the final holes. You can compensate for wall irregularities with wooden strips or plastic washers. This prevents later stress and potential damage to the cabinets.
Regarding screws: Galvanized or stainless steel screws are recommended due to moisture in the kitchen.
When drilling, always be careful to avoid hitting electrical wires or water pipes.
