Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install an Ikea Metod kitchen on my concrete walls and am looking for secure and durable methods to reliably mount the upper kitchen cabinets. My concrete walls are quite old and slightly uneven, and I want to avoid the cabinets falling or coming loose later on. Which suitable anchors and screws work best for concrete, and what general considerations should I keep in mind when attaching the cabinets? Are there any specific recommendations for pre-drilling or tips to increase stability? I am very much looking forward to your experiences and advice!

For concrete walls, it is best to use hammer-drive anchors or heavy-duty anchors. Pre-drill with the appropriate drill bit, insert the anchor, and tighten the screws. It is important to distribute the load across multiple anchors.

Hello Jepukin, I’m happy to provide you with a detailed step-by-step recommendation for attaching your Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets to concrete walls:

- Use high-quality metal hammer drive anchors or chemical anchors specifically designed for concrete.
- Always drill holes with a rotary hammer and an SDS drill bit of the appropriate diameter.
- Make sure to drill at least 8-10 cm (3 to 4 inches) deep into the masonry to ensure the anchors hold securely.
- Check the condition of the concrete to confirm there are no loose areas or voids.
- Distribute the weight of the cabinets evenly across multiple anchors.
- Use screws of the proper thickness and length so there is enough thread engagement inside the anchor.

Avoid plastic anchors for heavy kitchen furniture, as they barely hold in concrete.

If the walls are uneven, you can use spacers or washers for added stability.

I completely understand how frustrating it can be to feel uncertain during such an important installation. I had similar concerns because my concrete wall wasn’t in perfect condition either. My advice: take your time when measuring and marking the drill holes. It’s better to reposition them if needed than to have problems later on! Nobody wants a kitchen that becomes unstable after just a few months.

What also helped was drawing everything out carefully beforehand and planning the load distribution. Good luck, you can do this!

I recommend heavy-duty anchors for the installation. They are more stable than conventional wall plugs. It is important that the drill bit has the correct diameter and that you do not drill too close to the edge.

Exactly, heavy-duty anchors are often the best choice for concrete. Alternatively, you can use chemical anchors, which cure with resin inside the drilled hole and provide even higher load capacity.

One important tip: Before drilling, check the wall with a voltage tester to see if there are any cables or pipes nearby. Safety comes first.

Summary of my recommendations:
- Use a drill with SDS chuck
- Use BSHD anchors or bolt anchors
- At least 10 cm (4 inches) embedment depth
- Distribute the load across several fastenings if possible

Feel free to share how it went once you’re done!
