Hello everyone, I am planning to use my Ikea Pax wardrobe as a shoe cabinet and am looking for the best ways to organize it. Specifically, I am wondering how to set up the Ikea Pax, which is typically designed as a wardrobe, to store as many shoes as possible in an organized and easily accessible manner. I am particularly interested in clever built-in solutions that accommodate different types of shoes – from sneakers to boots to dress shoes. Solutions for easy visibility of all pairs and good air circulation would also be very helpful. Does anyone have practical tips on how to best combine Pax units, shelves, drawers, or special organizers to make the wardrobe efficient and functional as a shoe cabinet?

I would recommend installing many shelves at shorter intervals to store flat shoes and sneakers efficiently. Larger compartments at the top are useful for taller shoes like boots. Drawers with removable inserts help organize smaller items.

A systematic approach is advisable here: - Use adjustable shelves, ideally spaced 12-15 cm (5-6 inches) apart, for flat shoes. - Allocate taller compartments (about 35-40 cm (14-16 inches) in height) specifically for boots and winter boots. - Drawers with dividers work well for sandals or smaller shoe models. - For optimal visibility and air circulation, I recommend using breathable materials or regular ventilation. - There are also special Pax inserts, such as shoe racks or pull-out wire baskets, which make access easier. This way, you make the best use of the available space and ensure long-lasting storage.

This is an important point because many boots simply require a lot of space. You can even experiment with adjustable shelves here and adapt them as needed.

Furthermore, it makes sense to place flat shoes on small shelves or specially designed inserts – like Pax units – that are angled, so all shoes can be seen more easily at a glance.

Exactly that can be achieved by combining angled shelves with breathable materials or ventilation elements. For example, open wire baskets or narrow grid shelves can be used. If glare is a big issue, check whether doors can be made of glass or fitted with ventilation features.

I also recommend not only focusing on storage space but also ensuring that shoes stay dry. This is especially important for sports shoes and boots to prevent mold and odors.
