Hello everyone,
some time ago I purchased IKEA Metod kitchen fronts with a matte finish and now face the challenge of cleaning them gently. The matte surface seems sensitive to scratches, and I want to avoid streaks or unpleasant marks when cleaning.

My question is: which cleaning methods and products are suitable for gently cleaning matte IKEA Metod fronts without causing scratches or leaving streaks? Do you use special cloths, cleaning agents, or techniques?

I appreciate any helpful tips, including things to avoid. Thanks in advance!

I would simply use a soft microfiber cloth and lukewarm water. No abrasive cleaners! This will clean the matte surface without scratching or leaving streaks.

Hello Renmar,

I think your question is very relevant, especially because matte surfaces often require different care compared to glossy ones.

Here is a brief guide based on my experience:

- Always use a soft microfiber cloth. It’s best to avoid rough materials.
- For cleaning, a damp cloth with a mild dishwashing detergent (without harsh chemicals) is usually sufficient.
- Avoid abrasive sponges or brushes, as they can easily cause scratches.
- After cleaning with a damp cloth, it is advisable to dry the surfaces with a dry cloth to prevent water spots or streaks.

A common mistake is using too much cleaning product, which often leaves streaks after drying.

Summary:

- Soft microfiber cloth
- Mild detergent (diluted dishwashing detergent)
- Wipe gently, do not scrub
- Follow up with a dry cloth

If you want, I can also share tips on removing grease stains or tougher dirt.

To be honest, I’m surprised this is necessary at all. In my opinion, a good kitchen cabinet material should be durable enough that simply wiping it with clear water is completely sufficient. Why make such a fuss over special cleaners? I think cleaning is often made unnecessarily complicated—in the end, people use harsh products that cause more harm than good.

Especially with a matte finish like this: maybe it’s better not to touch the cabinet fronts too often to preserve their look, rather than constantly cleaning them. But I guess that’s a matter of personal preference.

What do you think?

Hello Renmar and everyone interested,

I have been focusing on surface care for some time and would like to provide a detailed insight into the topic of IKEA Metod matte fronts.

First, a bit of background: Matte plastic fronts, like those on IKEA Metod, have a slightly textured surface that holds dirt and fingerprints differently than smooth surfaces. The risk of scratches and streaks mainly comes from using the wrong cleaning tools or inappropriate cleaning agents.

I recommend the following procedure:

- Cleaning cloth: Always use a soft, clean microfiber cloth, well wrung out and free of dirt particles.
- Cleaning agent: If necessary, use a strongly diluted solution of mild dish soap (pH-neutral). Avoid abrasive cleaners, ammonia-based or alcohol-based products.
- Cleaning technique: Lightly dampen the cloth (not wet!) and wipe the fronts gently with circular motions.
- Aftercare: Wipe again with a dry microfiber cloth to evenly dry the matte surface and prevent water spots.

Be careful with the following:
- Do not use scrubbing sponges or rough materials to avoid scratches.
- Aggressive chemical cleaners or solvents are off limits.
- For heavy dirt, better to clean gently multiple times than scrub hard.

A common mistake is using damp cleaning wipes or paper towels, which often leave residue behind.

My question to you, Renmar: Are there specific types of stains or dirt that you find particularly challenging? That way, I can address the issue more precisely if needed.
