Hello everyone,
we have had a (very nice) IKEA kitchen for 8 years. Strangely, the front panel is no longer available – which I find puzzling, but anyway.
When installing a dishwasher, the protective film on the plinth under the appliance was damaged. However, this film is no longer being used. It was matte aluminum-colored. Now, only steel-colored options are available. That color is noticeably darker and we don’t like it as much.
The alternative would be to replace the entire plinth front with steel-colored one (or have it done, since I am basically a “non-handyman”).
My question or request is: where could one still get this film and perhaps have it applied? Or does anyone have another idea on how to solve this problem?
Thank you very much.
Best regards, Steffen

Do you still have the invoice or know the name of the baseboard?

Hello Maverick,

The invoice is definitely somewhere.. however, I went to Ikea with the board, and the friendly gentleman said that this color is no longer available and that the boards come factory-laminated with the foil...

My alternatives would be,

... at the hardware store, you can get adhesive film. But the chance of it matching the exact color is almost zero.

... buy a new baseboard. Eight years is a long time, and a new baseboard costs about 12 euros per 2.20 meters (7.2 feet). Even the least experienced DIYer should be able to cut a baseboard with a jigsaw, right???

Do you have the "old" silver Ikea Faktum toe kick? If so, I still have a bit of it left 😉
