Hello everyone, I am currently planning a kitchen layout using the Ikea METOD system and want to focus on ergonomics and space-saving solutions. Specifically, I am interested in how to best coordinate the depth, height, and arrangement of the base cabinets as well as the wall cabinets to allow for efficient workflow without wasting too much space. Does anyone have experience or recommendations regarding which module sizes and internal fittings have proven effective? Tips on smart storage solutions are especially important, for example for waste sorting, spices, or small appliances, without making the countertop appear cluttered. I would appreciate knowledgeable and practical advice!
I find the practical aspect very important: think about how you use your cooking utensils every day. For me, pull-out drawers with classic file-folder-style inserts (for pots and lids) have proven effective—they hold a lot and provide quick access.
Rotating corner solutions (Magic Corner) are real space savers. At first, I thought they were overrated, but they are fantastic for compact kitchens.
Don’t forget lighting, which is often underestimated! Under-cabinet lights not only provide illumination but also create atmosphere. They are ergonomic for the eyes and make working in the kitchen more comfortable.

And one more thing: With good LED strips under the wall cabinets, you not only get lighting but also make the work surface appear larger and more inviting. That’s a great tip, thanks! I hadn’t really considered how much good lighting can improve the quality of work. Are there suitable solutions from Ikea that integrate well with METOD? Also, I’m wondering whether a plinth heater integrated to keep food warm is practical, or is it usually inconvenient for everyday use?

Are there suitable solutions from Ikea that work well with METOD?Yes, Ikea offers LED strips with dimmable features and easy installation designed for METOD kitchens. These are usually available as flexible or system lights with plug connectors. The installation is designed to fit discreetly under the wall cabinets and is simple to operate.
Regarding toe-kick heating: This is rather uncommon and can result in unused heating capacity from an ergonomic perspective, as it usually is not a workspace. If you need warmth for keeping food heated, a separate warming drawer or warming cabinet would be a more elegant solution, although options are limited for METOD.
I recommend focusing more on good lighting and well-thought-out storage solutions. If you like, I can also suggest specific products.
Regarding ergonomics, it is important to adjust your work surfaces to your body height as much as possible. METOD offers various work height frames; use these to set the perfect height.
Also, keep in mind that drawers with full extension provide better access to the entire storage space. This helps you avoid bending over and unnecessary reaching.
