Hello everyone! I am currently facing the challenge of how to optimize the lighting inside my IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets to get a much clearer view inside. I find that the standard LED strips or single lights are often not sufficient because shadows are created or certain areas remain too dark – especially in deep cabinets or with tall wall cabinets.

My question is: What lighting methods, light sources, or installation options have you found for Metod cabinet systems to achieve better illumination and thus improved visibility? What has proven effective in practice, including aspects such as energy consumption, installation, and light distribution?

I would also appreciate any tips regarding cable management, dimmability, or light color. Thank you in advance!

I would recommend using LED light strips installed along the inner edges. This avoids shadows and provides even illumination. It’s best to choose dimmable options if you want to create different lighting moods.

The challenge with Metod kitchen cabinets lies in their deep and sometimes tall design, which can cause uneven lighting. Flexible LED strips with a neutral white color temperature (around 4000 Kelvin) are recommended, as they provide excellent color rendering and visibility. For installation, an internal setup along the side walls or at the top inside the cabinet is suitable to minimize shadows. Additionally, a power supply with multiple outputs can be useful to operate several strips independently, allowing different zones to be illuminated. Cables can often be concealed behind the cabinet backs or within the supplied channels. An alternative is battery-powered LED lights with motion sensors, in case fixed wiring is not possible.

For better visibility indoors, use bright, broad-area light sources. Small spotlights often create strong contrasts. LED strip lights or flat panels work better in this case.

Here are some practical tips: For IKEA Metod cabinets, especially in tall wall cabinets and base cabinets with deep storage, I recommend installing LED strips directly on the side walls or under intermediate shelves. This significantly reduces shadows and ensures even lighting on all levels. If you need additional small, focused lighting, you can use LED puck lights or spotlights. Make sure the light color is neutral or cool white to accurately see colors without warm tones. Cable management is also important: most people use cable channels that can be discreetly routed behind the cabinet walls or integrate plugs with connection systems that IKEA offers for Metod. It is crucial to measure and plan before installation where the power outlets will be and whether you want to control multiple zones separately. Dimmers also allow you to adjust the brightness depending on the time of day.

That sounds interesting! Does anyone have experience with such battery-operated LED lights in Metod cabinets? Specifically, how often do they need to be recharged, and how bright is the light really? I want to avoid having to constantly "tinker" with the lighting.
