Hello everyone, I recently equipped my kitchen with Ikea Metod cabinet fronts and am now facing the challenge of cleaning and maintaining them effectively while being environmentally friendly. I am particularly interested in methods and products that preserve the durability of the fronts without using harmful chemicals or damaging the surface. Which cleaning agents or household remedies have you found effective for removing grease, fingerprints, and everyday dirt? Are there any specific maintenance tips you would recommend to keep the Metod fronts clean and in good condition in a sustainable way? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

An addition to the previous tips: If you prioritize environmental friendliness, natural household remedies like a mild soap solution are often a good choice.

In my experience, immediate wiping of stains and regular cleaning with lukewarm water and a small amount of biodegradable dish soap protect surfaces very well.

It is important to wring out the cloth thoroughly afterward, as standing moisture can cause issues, as mentioned before. After cleaning, simply dry the material with a dry cloth.

If you have exact details about your surface (e.g., high gloss, matte, foil coating), I can provide more specific advice.

From my perspective, it is important not to use polish or wax on Metod fronts, as these products can often affect the chemical composition of the coating.

Instead, I recommend using pH-neutral cleaners without solvents and soft cloths.

For maintenance: Special care waxes or oils are usually not necessary for coated fronts and can make the surface look unattractive.
I find that to be very accurate. Regular, gentle cleaning effectively prevents deposits and preserves the surface in the long term. This also minimizes environmental risks caused by unnecessary chemicals.

If you are looking for a completely natural method, I can recommend a mixture of water, a few drops of olive oil, and a small amount of vinegar essence – but you should use this very sparingly and only diluted.

The idea behind this is that the olive oil acts as a conditioning agent, creating a slight protective film, while the vinegar provides cleaning. However, as already mentioned, you should always be careful with acids on sensitive melamine or laminate surfaces.

I would suggest testing the mixture first on an inconspicuous spot! Otherwise, the general rule is: clean gently, avoid abrasive agents, and it’s better to clean more often gently than rarely and aggressively.
