Hello everyone, I am planning to install Metod cabinets from Ikea with sliding doors in a rather small kitchen, aiming to save as much space as possible. I am especially interested in how to best design the cabinet structure so that the sliding doors operate smoothly and require minimal clearance. Does anyone have experience with the optimal installation of the tracks or tips for handling the doors in tight spaces? Also, how is the stability affected when multiple cabinets with sliding doors are placed side by side? I would appreciate any advice, especially regarding materials or additional solutions that have proven effective.

Super interesting topic! I did exactly this with Metod and installed sliding doors. It’s important to take your time aligning everything. A tip from me: use strips to level the tracks, which makes sliding much smoother. The result is really great because you save a lot of space!
Thanks in advance for the quick replies! I’m specifically wondering about the best way to install the rollers on the tracks when space is limited – does anyone have a recommendation on whether the tracks should be mounted more towards the center or closer to the edge of the cabinet? I’m also interested in whether it makes sense to use the usual Ikea tracks or to consider third-party options when it comes to durability.

The guide rails should be mounted as close to the edges of the cabinet as possible. This helps minimize torque. Center-mounted tracks usually require thicker doors and more space for sliding doors.

Ikea tracks are solid, but for heavy use and long-term durability, branded hardware products from manufacturers like Hettich or Blum are generally more durable and easier to adjust.
