Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into the IKEA Platsa system for a larger wardrobe and have a question: Are there versions of IKEA PLATSA with sliding doors?
So far, I have mainly seen folding or hinged doors, but sliding doors would be much more practical in tight spaces. Therefore, I would like to know if IKEA officially offers such versions within the PLATSA range or if this is usually a custom solution that one has to implement themselves. It is also important for me to know if IKEA provides specific track systems or mounting options for this.
Does anyone have experience with this or is familiar with the system? Any tips on compatible solutions are welcome.
Thank you in advance!

Hello Matim,
to clarify your question: IKEA PLATSA does not actually offer original sliding door options. This is mainly due to the design of the system, which is based on modular carcasses with standard hinged and folding doors (or open shelving). Sliding doors require a different technical approach – they need track systems at the top and bottom, as well as a suitable construction to ensure smooth, snag-free movement.
What many people do is use third-party sliding door solutions. In this case, wood or MDF panels are cut to size and mounted on appropriate track systems. The challenge is that the dimensions of the PLATSA carcasses must be measured very precisely, and the sliding doors need to be designed with enough clearance between floor and ceiling, while being properly guided in the tracks. The installation is also somewhat more complex.
If you can provide more details about your room and its dimensions, I would be happy to give you advice on which solutions might be compatible and what kind of effort would be involved.

officially, IKEA does not sell PLATSA sliding doors. That’s exactly how it is!
But don’t let that discourage you – with a bit of DIY skill, you can create very creative sliding door solutions using PLATSA. This really adds a lot of flexibility, especially in small apartments.
Good luck with your project, I’m looking forward to updates! 🙂
Hello Matim,
PLATSA is a flexible system, but as mentioned before, there are no official sliding doors from IKEA for this range. However, that does not mean it’s impossible.
For better understanding:
- PLATSA cabinets are standardized with fixed sides and back panels.
- Sliding doors require top and bottom tracks as well as running rollers, which are not integrated into PLATSA as standard.
- You can modify existing doors or use custom-made ones and adapt them to externally installed track systems.
I recommend carefully measuring the height and width of your PLATSA units before purchasing the track systems. Also, pay attention to the clearance from the floor to prevent the doors from dragging.
I’m happy to share more information about track systems that can connect multiple cabinets if you’re interested.
If you want, you can tell me where the cabinet will be placed – maybe that will help to tailor the solution better.

If you can tell me more about your room and the dimensions, I’d be happy to give you tips on which solutions might be compatible and what effort you can expect. Thanks, Domau0, good idea. The plan is focused on a bedroom with limited space, about 2.10 m (6 ft 11 in) in height and just under 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in) in width for the wardrobe area.
The PLATSA components should be as space-saving as possible, which is why I’m interested in sliding doors to avoid blocking access by opening doors.
Are there any special considerations regarding the dimensions? And what about choosing the track systems? Are simple wooden panels sufficient, or is it better to use lighter materials?
Looking forward to recommendations.
