Dradeo32Hello everyone,
I recently bought a KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA and noticed during assembly that the screws provided for the back panel and to secure certain components are far too short. This makes it difficult to properly stabilize the unit, which is quite frustrating since I made sure all parts were included.
My question is: Is it worth trying to return or exchange these screws at IKEA? Has anyone had similar experiences and can comment on how accommodating their customer service is? Or are there recommended alternatives and tips for choosing suitable screws?
Looking forward to your opinions and advice.

It’s really frustrating when you’re trying to assemble a piece of furniture and not everything fits. It’s understandable that you want to file a complaint.
I once had a general issue with the screw length in another IKEA shelving unit. My advice: don’t hesitate to contact customer service, they are often helpful, especially if it’s actually a manufacturing defect. If you don’t get replacement screws, you can also look for comparable screws at a hardware store – usually the diameter and thread pitch are the most important factors.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

Interesting that you say the screws are too short. Was the shelf fully assembled according to the instructions, or could some parts be missing?
According to IKEA instructions, the screws usually fit exactly. What exactly is the issue? Maybe we can better understand the cause before suggesting a complaint.

A targeted complaint is advisable if the screws are shorter than specified in the instructions or if this negatively affects stability.
Important: Before reporting, check whether the screws match the length specifications provided by the manufacturer. If not, request replacement. Otherwise, the issue may be related to assembly, incorrect application, or the wrong type of screw.
