Good morning everyone, I recently purchased the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and am now looking for suitable care products to keep the furniture in good condition over the long term. I am especially interested in recommendations for cleaning agents or care oils that do not damage or discolor the surfaces. Does anyone have experience with products that are particularly suitable for the painted MDF panels of the Brimnes? Which products have worked well for you without leaving unwanted residues or dull spots afterwards? I would appreciate any tips, including recommendations on how often to apply them.

Regarding the question about recommended care products for the Ikea Brimnes: The surface is made of melamine-coated chipboard or MDF. These materials are relatively resistant to water but sensitive to solvents or harsh cleaners.

- Cleaning: Use a soft, slightly damp cloth with pH-neutral soap or mild dishwashing detergent solution.
- Care: Additional polish is not necessary since the coating already provides protection.
- Frequency: Cleaning once or twice a month is sufficient for normal use. Targeted stains should be removed immediately.

Avoid using nourishing polishes, as they can damage and dull the surface over time. Also, do not use abrasive sponges.

In short: For Brimnes, a damp cloth and mild soap are sufficient. Do not use polish or oil-based products. Dust regularly and clean stains immediately. This keeps the surface looking good.

Thanks for the clear information! That helps me a lot because I actually already tested a polish that made the surface look slightly unattractive.

One more detailed question: What do you think about products designed for delicate surfaces, like furniture lacquer sprays that claim to protect against UV and scratches? Is that useful for Brimnes, or rather unnecessary?

The idea sounds good in principle. However, caution is advised with furniture like Brimnes, as the original coating can be sensitive to additional layers of lacquer. Such sprays might alter the original finish or cause peeling.

I would rather recommend them for high-quality solid wood furniture, but not for inexpensive laminate or melamine coatings. In these cases, being cautious is more important than adding extra protection.
