Hello everyone,

I recently assembled some Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets with drawers. I noticed that the drawers don’t always operate smoothly or properly. Sometimes they stick or don’t close evenly, which is quite frustrating.

My question is: How can I ensure that the Ikea Metod drawers run perfectly after assembly? Are there proven techniques or tips for adjusting, fine-tuning, or reworking the drawers so they glide smoothly and align precisely?

I have the impression that it’s not just about the initial assembly but also about making adjustments afterwards.

Thanks in advance for your experiences and helpful advice!

The most important thing is to align the drawer slides precisely and tighten all screws firmly, but not excessively.

Check that the runners are clean and free of debris.

If there is any sticking, you can lightly oil the guides or use a silicone-based spray.

Great topic! The Metod drawers are actually brilliant, but precise adjustment really makes all the difference! 😊

My tip: Take a close look at the rollers and tracks – sometimes they are installed slightly crooked. Then align them properly and tighten the screws gently – not too tight!

And very important: The fronts should be perfectly parallel. I regularly check this with a small carpenter’s square.

You’ve got this!

Of course, that’s what everyone says. But isn’t it almost naive to believe that these inexpensive hinges and drawer slides can be perfect?

I mean, Ikea produces in large quantities, so compromises in precision are inevitable. The so-called "fine adjustments" are often just an attempt to compensate for shortcomings in the components.

If perfection matters, it’s generally better to opt for higher-quality solutions – or at least retrofit the Metod drawers with aftermarket parts. The standard versions are basically average.

To ensure that the Ikea Metod drawers operate smoothly after assembly, I recommend the following steps:

- First, check the alignment of the drawer slides: they must be exactly parallel to the front panel and the cabinet.
- Adjust the side adjustment screws on the runners to level the drawer horizontally.
- Tightening the screws with controlled torque prevents warping.
- If there is any friction, check for foreign objects or manufacturing debris in the slides.
- Occasional lubrication with a silicone-based lubricant improves smoothness without attracting dust.

The drawer fronts are finely adjusted using separate adjustment screws on the guides, ensuring a perfect fit and even spacing.

These steps ensure a harmonious interaction between mechanics and appearance.

Thank you for the encouraging response! I’m particularly interested in how tightly the screws should be tightened. You mention "not too tight" – do you have a rough guideline or practical experience to ensure nothing is loose but also no deformation occurs?

You also mention aligning the fronts with an angled tool – would a regular carpenter’s square from a toolbox work here, or is a more specialized tool needed?

I’m looking forward to more practical tips!
